working away from office

Awana Genting, 30 July 2009 - I have only been an employer of UniKL MICET Alor Gajah, Melaka for 10 days, and is now attending the induction course at one of Genting Highlands' premier resorts.

There will be around 60 other newly-recruited staff of UniKL converging at the resort for the course, that will centre mainly on introducing the staff to the group's objectives and visions. I truly hope that I will be truly refreshed and rejuvenated by the experience!

Okay, enuff about the above formalities.... on to my actual news - we arrived (the four of us - Yanti, Azia and Nadia the driver and owner of the 5-month old Saga) at Awana around 3.20. Yanti and me were assigned room 2517, which turned out to be a cute, well-equipped studio apartment.

But the hardest part is my being away from the kids- we've been on the phone three times since I arrived, and I even called Ayum in Shah Alam twice, Miss him the most, as I don't get to see him this weekend. But we'll be there next Wednesday.

As for UniKL, the students were sent home yesterday, as the scare for H1N1 escalates. In the first place, it was supposed to be total shutdown, but as the evening progressed, the president decided that the office would remain open... and I only got the call at 9.25 from Saadiah telling me that the campus is to remain open... haha, hm, since I haven't finished packing, I had to rush home from my roti canai breakfast, and only reached UniKL at 11.30... and left at 12.10 for Genting! We made a stop at the Seremban R&R for lunch & prayers...

I just got back from supper where I dined on Cajun Chicken with Pita - hm, it was great! The teh tarik alone cost RM5... the whole dinner cost me RM24++. B4 going up, we stopped at the bakery which sold cakes for 50% the price after 9.30pm. Hm, got a strawberry & marble cheese cake... have tried the Strawberry cheese slice, quite yummy... hope that the marble in the fridge will be even yummier...

K, gotta hit the sack tomorrow... really looking forward to a wonderful experience!!!

Dari Shah Alam ke Alor Gajah

Starting last Tuesday, I am now an employee of UniKL - MICET, the Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bio Engineering Technology. Which means, I am moving back to Melaka!

On the first day, it rained heavily, so I arrived a little late - not a good impression for a new employee - but then, I went back at 7 as that was the time my class ended. Got an office to myself - have to 'tumpang' the library for the time being, though...

However, I still need to travel to and fro Shah Alam for my M.Ed TESL classes. Thus, every Wed, Thur and Friday afternoons , I have to travel to UiTM. I'd drive back to Melaka in the morn, just on time to reach my class in the morn ( I have to be in by 10am).

The first week, so far, so good, except for the fact that I couldn't attend my Thursday class (Dr. Zee's) as I haven't rescheduled my class at UniKL. Turned out, even my Bac C students were not around, as they had only registered a day earlier... hmph, took the time to finish my presentation for Dr. Nabilah's class! And, this week, I've indeed completed 2 presentations...

On Friday, I arrived quite early, headed for the CC at Sek 2, photocopied at Nabil's next door, and made it to class at around 6.25! Only to find out that next week's classes are postponed due to the H1N1 (swine flu) scare! So far, UiTM Shah Alam is the fifth UiTM campus to be closed down, with Melaka taking the honor of being the first one, followed by Sri iskandar, Dungun, &
SP... well, at least I could take a breather for a week...

But then, we still need to travel the weekand as my darling boy Aiyum is still here til he finishes his UPSR... he's atok's darling for the moment!

So, I'm getting ready to go back to Melaka soon, all packed up, but waiting for my darling boy to finish his Maths exercises... I hope that it'll be a safe journey... Amin!

A sad week for Malaysia

Last week, the whole of Malaysia was stunned to discover that a political secretary of a Selangor exco, Teoh Beng Hock, 30, was found dead at Plaza Masalam - a mere 3 min drive from my home. The shocking part was that, he was found sprawled 9 floors beneath the office of SPRM while under their 'custody'. It was indeed mysterious as he was supposed to be registering his marriage to his fiancee the following day.

Hence, Malaysians from all walks of life denounced the irresponsible statements made by some government officers and ministers, such as the one issued by Nazri. Hm, some people can be so inconsiderate!

And this morn, Malaysians wake up to another huge loss- that of Yasmin Ahmad, the mega-talented director of so many 1Malaysian-themed movies - Sepet, Gubra, Mokhsin, Talentime, and of course, the various hilarious, heart-rending Petronas movies come raya & national day time. Seriously, the Msian film scene would never be the same again!

The way she weaved real-life scenes into her films were simply marvelous! She gave us the talented Amani and Shafie (the boy who played Mokhsin), and of course, Adibah, and whatever things they say about her, for me, she's a plain genius!
